Types of Bolts

Hexagonal Bolt

Hexagonal bolts are commonly used because their basic shape is such that they can be widely used.

This bolt has a 6-sided head, threaded shaft, and is made from various steel grades.

Hexagonal bolts are threaded and require a matching size nut to complete the operation.

The head of the hexagonal bolt is chamfered at 30° angles so that it can be opened and tightened easily.

Square Head Bolt

The head of such a bolt is square in shape and is used where it can be fitted into the groove.

Carriage Bolt

The carriage bolts are made smooth, round head and bottom in the cubic section so that it tightens properly when tightened. 

Use of carriage bolt in general to connect large structural units of wood.

These bolts also have threaded shafts that require matching threaded nuts. 

Round Head or Cup Bolt

This type of bolt is in the oval shape, which is mostly used in the Carpenter Shop.

It is also known as a Rail track bolt.

T- Square Head Bolt

This type of bolt's head is in shape like the English word "T" and it is mostly used for fitting any job or workpiece in a table.

 J - Bolt

J-shaped bolts are used as tie-downs or open eye bolts.

It is also called a hook bolt or j hook bolt.

Hook bolts are mostly used for the fitting of sheets in sheds.

U-Bolt

Shoulder Bolt

Shoulder bolts which are also called stripper bolts are used to make the pivot point.

Cylindrical Head Bolt

The head of such bolts is cylindrical and it is also known as a cheese head bolt.

 
Elevator Bolt

Elevator bolts are often used in conveyor systems. 

They have large, flat heads.

Hanger Bolt 

Hanger bolts have wood threads on one end and machine threads on the other end.

Lag Bolt

Lag bolts look like a hexagonal bolt as they also have a hexagonal head.

But the lag bolt consists of a pointed wood shaft and is used to hold wood without thread nuts.

Types of Nuts

Hexagonal Nut

The shape of such nuts is hexagonal, and It is the most commonly used nut in industries.

This type of nut requires very little clearance to open and tighten because its hexagonal shape causes the spanner has to rotate at 60°.

Square Nut

The shape of such a nut is square and has four faces.

This type of nut requires more clearance to tighten and open because its square shape causes the spanner has to rotate at 90°.

Cap Nut

This type of nut has a cap so that the bolt and nut are protected from water, etc.

Flange Nut

This type of nut has a collar that acts as a washer.

Dome Nut

This type of nut is dome shaped and it's also protected from water, dust, etc.

Capstan Nut

This type of nut is round in shape and has small holes in its circumference.

"C" Spanner is used to open and tighten this nut.

Ring Nut

This type of nut is also round in shape and has slots on its outer periphery.

It also requires a "C" spanner to open and tighten.

Knurled Nut

Its outer surface is knurled and can be easily opened and tightened by hand.

It is used where the nut has to be tightened or opened repeatedly.

Thumb Nut

It also has knurling on the outer surface, but the only difference is that a collar is made in this nut.

Wing Nut

In this type of nut, two wings are made on its periphery so that the nut can be opened and tightened easily.
